2. Listening

Let's do the listening activity on page 20. Who do you think is travelling for which of the reasons?

Listen to track 1.55 and complete the chart.

Olivia is going to Nicaragua as a Volunteer. She is going to teach English to young children for 6 weeks. After that she is going to travel around the country for a month.

Matthew is going to Australia for a photo shoot. He is going to model winter clothes for next season. Right now it is quite cold in Melbourne, around 8-9º C during the day.

Lily is going to Budapest for work and to see an ex-boyfriend. She is going to attend a conference at Budapest University, where her ex-boyfriend works.

Listen again with the transcript on page 119 to check your answers.

3. Grammar: be going to for plans and predictions

Let's do the exercises in 3 on page 21. Decide if they are plans or predictions

1. I'm going to teach English to young children. (plan)
2. How long are you going to be there for? (plan)
3. It's winter in Australia now, so it's going to be quite cold. (prediction)
4. Is he going to meet you at the airport? (plan/prediction)
5. I'm sure you are going to have a great time. (prediction)

Let's go to page 130 and read about 'be going to' for plans and predictions.

Now, let's do the exercises on page 131.
