1. Grammar: Present Perfect vs Past Simple

Present Perfect

Past experiences that can be repeated (number of occurences)
Experiencias en el pasado que se pueden repetir.

• Have you ever been to Rome? ¿Alguna vez has estado en Roma?
• I've been to Rome 5 times. He estado en Roma 5 veces.

Compare to experiences that can't be repeated:
Compara con experiencias que no se pueden repetir:

• Was your grandfather ever in Rome? ¿Tu abuelo estuvo alguna vez en Roma?
• My grandfather went to Rome five times before he died. Mi abuelo fue a Roma cinco veces antes de morir.

Duration (for/since)

• I've lived in Spain for 10 years. He vivido en España durante 10 años.
• I've lived in Spain since 2004. He vivido en España desde 2004.

Expected events (yet/already/still) Eventos esperados

• Has Rebecca had her baby yet? Rebeca ya ha tenido el niño?
• No, she hasn't had him yet. No, no le ha tenido todavía.
• No, she still hasn't had him. No, no le ha tenido todavía.
• Yes, she has already had him. Sí, ya le ha tenido.

Very recent events (just)

• Rafa has just arrived. Rafa acaba de llegar.

*Been vs Gone

• He's gone to Paris. Ha ido a París (y no ha vuelto aún.)
• He's been to Paris. Ha ido a París (y ha vuelto.)

Past Simple

Specific past events (at specific times)

• I went to Rome in November. Fui a Roma en noviembre.
• I moved to Spain in 2004. Me trasladé a España en 2004.
