Let's go to page 16. Read the story and complete the blanks with the linking phrases in the box.

Now answer the questions in 1b with a partner.

1. Why did Hannah go and speak to Jamie?
    She didn't like the music in the club and wanted him to change it.

    Jamie was waiting for her outside.
4. What was the restaurant like?
    It was a romantic French restaurant, but the food wasn't very good.
5. Where did they go every evening after that?
    They met at a coffee bar in the high street.
6. What was the weather like that evening?
    It was dark and it was raining.
7. Why was Hannah driving fast?
    Because she was late.
8. Why didn't she see the man?
    He was wearing a dark coat.

Next, complete the sentences in 1c with the correct connector.

  • We use because to show a reason and so to show a result.
  • We use but and although to show contrast.

- en lenguaje escrito se emplean para conectar dos frases y NUNCA al principio de la frase, exceptuando lenguaje muy informal (mensajes de texto, emails a amigos cercanos, etc.) Sí es admisible empezar frases con estos conectores en lenguaje hablado.
